Position: Technical Writer
Location: Manassas, VA
Length: Long-term contract position
Hourly rate: up to $38
Security Clearance: U.S. citizenship is required, along with the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance.
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop, validate, and test maintenance and operational procedures in lab environments and onboard U.S. Navy submarines.
  • Provide input during reviews of maintenance index pages (MIPs) and maintenance requirement cards (MRCs).
  • Create operations and maintenance procedures for integration into electronic technical manuals using engineering documentation.
  • Support provisioning technical data packages for the AN/BYG-1 combat system.
  • Develop training materials using Microsoft Office products to support operations and maintenance.
  • Maintain document configuration management using sound configuration principles.
  • Utilize agile development methodologies to create electronic technical manuals and maintain an understanding of agile roles and mindsets.
  • Work with tools like JIRA or DOORS for standards and requirements management.
  • Conduct research to summarize unfamiliar technologies for end-users, collaborating with subject matter experts as needed.
  • Travel as required to support Navy customers, potentially including work onboard naval vessels in port and at sea.
 
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • 1-3 years of full-time experience in submarine fleet logistic support, including system installation, testing, operation, and lifecycle maintenance.
  • Experience with HTML, XHTML, or XML.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
  • Bachelor's or Technology degree in Engineering, a related field, or equivalent (4 years of relevant job-related experience).
